Eyes on Ministry: Outreach

Hope Church Pearland is committed to saving souls by spreading the message of Jesus Christ, to healing hurts by providing scripturally based teaching and developing programs that are concerned with ministering to individuals, families, children and youth. There are several ministries within Hope that allow us to accomplish this mission. "Eyes on Ministry" will give you a glimpse inside each Hope ministry, and inform you on how you can get involved.

Meet Kristen Tucker, the dedicated leader of the Outreach Ministry.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am originally from Grand Rapids, MI. I currently am working towards a degree in psychology, with a focus on teenagers. I have been a member of Hope for about three years and have thoroughly loved every minute of it.

What is the mission/vision statement of the your ministry?

The Outreach Ministry is setting out to reach people where they are and show them the love of Christ, through various projects and missions.

Who can participate in your ministry?
Anyone and everyone can participate in this ministry.

How long have you been involved?
I have been involved in the Outreach Ministry for about two years.

How long have you been leading the ministry?
I have been merging into the leadership of this ministry for almost a year now.

What caused you to get involved and lead the ministry?
The reason that I went towards the Outreach ministry is simply because I have always had a heart to reach out to those who are lost or less fortunate. I have a gift of creativity which I believe God uses for His glory through different acts of kindness. I cannot just sit still knowing that there is something that we can do to help people...IT'S IN ME!

How has leading this ministry impacted your life?
Becoming the leader of this ministry has really let me know that there is more to life than the everyday routine, that we are to do the work of the Father, which will give us kingdom living here on Earth.

If you could speak to someone who is considering participating in the ministry, what would you say?
If anyone was interested in joining the Outreach Ministry, I would tell them that we are excited to have new faces and especially new ideas. At Hope, we will always welcome new things and great ideas. Please come as you are and spare no good ideas.

If I were a participant in your ministry, what could I expect?
You can expect teamwork, heartfelt commitment and love. You could easily expect us to be active and ready for the next idea.

What kind of feedback do you receive from participants?
Some of the feedback that I receive from the ministry participants tends to blow me away. People leave Outreach projects with a feeling of fulfillment. They also experience the impossible taking place. We always get positive feedback, however, the greatest thing is that people are already thinking of something greater and larger we can do next time, which lets me know their hearts are in the right place.

What is your most memorable moment as a ministry leader?
One of my most memorable experiences was down at the Bread of Life. We gave away brand new jackets, blankets, socks and hats to many homeless persons. What was so amazing was how everyone was praising God in the street and we were arm to arm and loving one another. One homeless man led us in worship the entire time...Man, it was breathtaking.

Picture your ministry a year from now. What do you see? What has changed?
I can picture the Outreach Ministry being a lot larger, new projects taking place and lives being saved through the missions.

Any closing thoughts?
I just want to let everyone know that everyday is a day to reach out to someone. Don't hold back what is in your heart to bless someone, being willing to be a vessel of kindness. I am so excited to see how God is going to use me and many others to bless people from here on out.
